Cheer Tryouts

Tryouts will be held for Varsity and JV Cheer. The coaches will determine each athlete’s skill level, potential, leadership abilities, and crowd presence. If you are interested in trying out for the team, please email Coach Brown Walters at brownunc@email.unc.edu.
We are looking for experienced flyers and tumblers. A back-handspring is the minimum requirement to be able to tryout. All prospective athletes must have the attached paperwork filled out and approved by Sports Medicine prior to tryouts. Please arrive with enough time to stretch and complete required paperwork.
Fall tryouts:
Cheerleading tryouts are typically held during the second week of school in Fetzer Gym C.
Spring tryouts:
Located in Fetzer Gym C, high school seniors are eligible to tryout in April/May if they have already been accepted to the university. Those who make the April tryout will be required to participate in summer workouts in preparation for the upcoming season.
Fetzer Gym is located on South Road across from the Student Union.

For JV: Males should be athletic and willing to learn. Most males trying out for the program have never cheered before. No previous experience or background with cheerleading is necessary.

Tryout Rules and Regulations

Eligibility
-
All athletes trying out for the Cheer or Dance teams must be full time students at the University of North Carolina At Chapel Hill. For admissions criteria, please contact the admissions office.

Cheerleaders must maintain a minimum 2.0 grade point average

Cheerleaders must remain in good academic standing with the University and have good conduct in and out of the classroom.

Tryout Attire
-
Athletes should come dressed prepared to workout. Girls should wear their hair half up half down or all the way up in a pony tail. No excess makeup is necessary.

Appropriate tennis/cheer shoes will be worn at all times. Sports bras are permitted.

All jewelry should be removed, including nose, ear, or belly rings.

Selection process

Selection of cheerleaders is based upon the sole discretion of the coaches. Notification of acceptance to the team will be posted immediately following the last day of tryouts.
